Braking on a bend is a particularly critical driving situation, because there is a high risk of the vehicle leaving the lane. Without ABS the wheels may lock and the vehicle no longer responds to the driver's steering input. The locked wheels
are no longer able to transfer the optimum braking forces and the necessary lateral forces to the road surface. The vehicle is thus no longer steerable and spins out of the bend.
With ABS the vehicle remains under control and can be safely steered.
